The English club ran in nine tries at Welford Road last Saturday in the 59-7 win, but Thompson, who was a 67th minute replacement, felt they could have scored more.

“We were happy, first and foremost, to get the win at home,” he told the club website. “And to get [more than] 50 points is always a positive.

“However, we’re also realists and we understand that we left a lot of points out there, and it wasn’t a complete 80-minute performance.

“That’s a big work on for us this week, because we know that Calvisano at home are a very different side. We know we’re in for a tough afternoon when we go out there.”

Leicester are one of only three clubs with three wins from three Challenge Cup games this season and as a result are top of their group, three points clear of Cardiff Blues, whom they host in Round 5 next month.

However, Thompson stressed that the Tigers are looking no further than Saturday’s game. “Calvisano are a good side,” the 32-year-old explained.

“Like I said, we are a little disappointed that we didn’t keep to our game plan for the full 80 minutes last week, so we know we have to get a good start in the game.

“We need to get a foothold and then we can start building on a [full] performance. First and foremost, it’ll be a case of getting out there and getting stuck in.”
