The French side went on to lift the trophy that year, but they have now gone more than a decade without winning the title, falling at the semi-finals in the past two seasons.

However, Toulouse have enjoyed success at the last-four stage on six occasions throughout the European Cup’s history and here we look back at those memorable victories:

Toulouse 30 Swansea 3, Les Sept Deniers, 1995

Toulouse eased into the final of the inaugural Heineken Cup, where they went on to beat Cardiff 21-18 after extra time at Cardiff Arms Park.

After comfortably navigating a pool made up of Benetton Rugby and Romanian side Farul Constanţa, they thrashed Swansea, with Eric Artiguste and Herve Manent both scoring tries and Christophe Deylaud kicking 15 points in a dominant display.

Toulouse 13 Munster Rugby 12, Le Stadium, 2003

Toulouse had to wait eight years for another semi-final appearance, but they were triumphant once again with a comeback victory over Munster, who were finalists the year before.

Ronan O’Gara looked to have won the game for the Irish province, with his two penalties and two drop-goals cancelling out two kicks from Toulouse’s Yann Delaigue heading into the closing moments.

But Toulouse snatched victory as Frederic Michalak notched a late try converted by replacement fly-half Jean–Baptiste Elissalde.

Victory over Perpignan in the final saw Toulouse claim their second European title.

Toulouse 19 Biarritz Olympique 11, Stade Chaban-Delmas, 2004

Toulouse reached the final once again the following year, although this time they fell short after a 27-20 defeat to Wasps.

They came out on top of an edgy all-French semi-final with Biarritz Olympique, with Yann Delaigue kicking 14 points and Isitolo Maka going over for their solitary try.

Leicester Tigers 19 Toulouse 27, The Walkers Stadium, 2005

Victory over Leicester saw Toulouse reach their third successive final, where they became the Heineken Cup’s first three-time champions after beating Stade Français Paris.

Jean-Baptiste Elissalde landed two penalties, three conversions and a try as he inspired Toulouse to a hard-fought win in England.

Leicester were within a point at half-time, but a strong second-half performance from Toulouse saw Finau Maka and Frederic Michalak touch down to seal their victory.

London Irish 15 Toulouse 21, Twickenham Stadium, 2008

Toulouse endured two disappointing campaigns before reaching the final for a fifth time in 2008, ultimately falling to a 16-13 defeat against Munster.

They proved too classy for a London Irish side who battled hard in the semi-finals, with Jean-Baptiste Elissalde’s two second-half penalties proving decisive.

Manu Ahota'e'iloa and William Servat both crossed for Toulouse, but tries from Irish’s Topsy Ojo and Sailosi Tagicakibau meant the French club needed the boot of Elissalde to send them into the final.

Toulouse 26 Leinster Rugby 16, Le Stadium, 2010

Toulouse fell to defeat in the quarter-finals against Cardiff Blues in 2009, before reaching yet another final the following season.

David Skrela racked up 21 points with a try, four penalties and two conversions as Toulouse dispatched Leinster in the semi-finals.

A 21-19 victory over Biarritz in the final saw Toulouse claim their fourth European crown.

When Toulouse face off against Bordeaux-Bègles in the Heineken Champions Cup semi-finals this weekend, they will be aiming to reach the final for the first time since 2010.
