Four-time European Cup winner Johnny Sexton has been nominated for World Rugby’s Men’s 15s Player of the Year award after a stunning domestic and European campaign that saw Leinster Rugby clinch a historic double. The 33-year-old Ireland fly-half played seven times in Leinster’s successful Champions Cup campaign last season, scoring 79 points, including nine in the 15-12 final victory over Racing 92 in Bilbao. With that victory, Sexton joined utility back Isa Nacewa, full-back Rob Kearney and prop Cian Healy as four-time winners of the European Cup. The other nominees for this year’s Men’s 15s World Rugby award include New Zealand fly-half Beauden Barrett and wing Rieko Ioane, South Africa hooker Malcom Marx and scrum-half Faf de Klerk, who also plays for Sale Sharks. The winner will be announced at the World Rugby Awards at the Salle des Etoiles in Monte Carlo on November 25.
