Four-time European Cup winner Johnny Sexton wants to “make the most of every last competition” as he prepares to lead Leinster Rugby into another campaign in Europe’s elite club tournament. Speaking at the Heineken Champions Cup and European Rugby Challenge Cup launch at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Wednesday, the 33-year-old Irish international insisted that his desire for more success remains for his 13th season in European rugby. “To win another Champions Cup last season was incredible,” the Leinster captain said. “For a couple years I did not think we’d get back to that level again. “It was a dream come true to win another and I don’t think the hunger has died down to win another one.” https://twitter.com/ChampionsCup/status/1044965281062375426 The fly-half has been a part of every title-winning campaign in Europe for Leinster and believes the combination of youth and experience will continue to improve the side. “It won’t be a fifth title for everyone, but another one for the club is how we look at it. If it’s your fifth, your first or your second, I think everyone’s hunger is the same,” Sexton continued. “We want to add to what’s gone well for us and that’s a pretty strong motivation in itself. We have a pretty good balance between young guys and senior guys. “The young guys are hungry for more success and the older guys want to make the most of their last few years. It’s a good mixture we’ve got here and hopefully we can drive things forward again this year.” The British & Irish Lion believes he still has "a few more years left in the tank” and is looking forward to opening the competition against Wasps at the RDS Arena on October 12. "You never know when you get to your 30s how the body will cope,” he added. “You want to make the most of every last competition that you’re in. The challenge of winning back-to-back titles for the second time is not something the Dublin-born half-back is taking lightly. “To get better is the motivation for this year, as other teams around Europe will definitely be better; they've signed better players and new coaches. “We’ve kept things pretty similar. Felipe [Contepomi] and Joe Tomane coming in has been great, and the only changes we’ve had to our environment, apart from losing a few guys. “It’s a challenge already that we are playing catch-up, but hopefully the tightness we have by having the same group will help us.”
