First-half tries from Josh Adams – after a quick cross-field kick from Dan Biggar – and Liam Williams gave Wales a 17-6 lead before Bath Rugby’s Anthony Watson responded for the visitors, dotting down out wide.

Scrum-half Kieran Hardy then took advantage of a lapse in concentration from the English defensive line by sprinting clear for an early second half try before England again hit back through Hardy’s opposite number, Leicester Tigers’ Ben Youngs.

Biggar’s replacement, Bristol Bears fly-half Callum Sheedy, helped tilt the match in Wales’ favour as he took full advantage of England’s ill-discipline by slotting over a trio of penalties to push his side into a 33-24 lead.

And with time running out, Wales added a bonus point try through Cory Hill who burrowed over from close range to cap off a famous win for the hosts.

Williams, Hardy and Sheedy will all be in Heineken Champions Cup action in April with both Scarlets and Bristol Bears finding out their last 16 opponents on Tuesday 9 March. On the same day, Cardiff Blues will find out their Challenge Cup last 16 opponents.
