The Nashville-born 32-year-old followed Toulouse’s Yoann Huget in hanging up his boots after a near 10-year career in the European Cup, in which he scored eight tries in 42 appearances for the Scottish region.

Having made his European Cup debut against Bath Rugby in November 2011, he then scored his first try in the competition in the return fixture in January 2012.

A couple of blank seasons in the European Cup followed before Bath again provided the opposition for his second tournament try, in October 2014.

The 55-cap Scotland international failed to trouble the European scorers in 2015/16, but then notched a crucial early try in the 43-0 victory at Leicester Tigers in January 2017 that set the Warriors on their way to a first-ever Heineken Champions Cup quarter-final.

The following season he enjoyed his most productive European campaign with three tries in five appearances – two against Exeter Chiefs and one versus Leinster Rugby.

Since then, Seymour has notched two more tries in the Heineken Champions Cup – against Saracens in January 2019 and Exeter the following year – before his final European appearance, against Exeter last December.

Glasgow Warriors head coach Danny Wilson commented: “Having made over 150 appearances for Glasgow in 10 years at the club, representing his country and playing for the British and Irish Lions, Tommy has achieved a huge amount in the game.

“He will be missed and his achievements within the game should be celebrated. He’s a well-respected leader here at Glasgow and has done a lot for both club and country.

“It’s a shame he hasn’t been available to us for more games this season. However, he has worked day in day out to ensure the team taking the field are fully prepared.

“He has been a fantastic servant to the club and we wish him all the best for the future.”

Glasgow Warrior Tommy Seymour has become the second top European winger in a week to announce his retirement from professional rugby.
