With Ireland set to take on the All Blacks this weekend in a Rugby World Cup quarter-final, we look back at some of the New Zealanders to have lifted the European Cup. Jamison Gibson-Park – 2018 The 27-year-old scrum-half has been a vital part of Leinster Rugby’s Champions Cup squad in the last three seasons, having played 20 times for the 2019 finalists and the 2018 winners. Although Gibson-Park has largely been used as a replacement, he started in crucial victories over Montpellier and Scarlets during the 2017-18 campaign, and won the Heineken Man of the Match award against Wasps last season. Chris Masoe – 2013 and 2015 The two-time European Cup winner enjoyed eight seasons in European rugby with three French sides, but it was with RC Toulon that he had the most success. Although the 20-Test No.8 missed Toulon’s 2014 final victory, he started both the 2013 and 2015 final wins, both over ASM Clermont Auvergne, at the Aviva Stadium and Twickenham respectively. [jwplayer CWHc12Pf] Brad Thorn – 2012 Thorn may have only played eight European Cup ties, but the 59-Test former All Blacks lock featured in Leinster’s 2012 success and also enjoyed a season at Leicester Tigers. The dual-code international played three matches in Leinster’s 2011-12 campaign, including the 42-14 final victory over Ulster Rugby, and returned to the European Cup three years later with Leicester, for whom he played a further five times. Byron Kelleher – 2010 The 57-Test scrum-half played four seasons of European Cup rugby for Toulouse, featuring in their 16-13 2008 final defeat to Munster Rugby, before winning Europe’s elite club competition with a 21-19 final success over Biarritz in Paris in 2010. Kelleher enjoyed one more season with Toulouse, before moving to Stade Français Paris, where he had one Challenge Cup campaign.
