Montpellier scored four tries as they cruised to a 29-10 victory over three-time European champions RC Toulon at GGL Stadium, moving above Brive in the TOP 14 table in the process.

Centre Arthur Vincent opened the scoring for the hosts before Gabriel N'Gandebe crossed the whitewash to put Montpellier 14-7 up at the break, with Toulon’s sole try coming from Romain Taofifenua.

Montpellier soon put the match beyond any doubt when Cobus Reinach and Youri Delhommel scored second half tries – Benoit Paillaugue would convert three of the four tries and Alex Lozowski slotted a long-range penalty kick.

They travel to the French capital on Saturday to face Stade Francais Paris in domestic action before a date with Leicester Tigers in the Challenge Cup final on May 21 at Twickenham.

Heineken Champions Cup finalists La Rochelle were beaten 24-12 by Brive last night and remain in second spot in the TOP 14.

Jono Gibbes and Ronan O’Gara named a rotational side, with fly-half Jules Plisson kicking all of La Rochelle’s points with a quartet of successful penalty kicks.
