With the Heineken Champions Cup final between Leinster Rugby and Saracens in Newcastle just days away, we go down memory lane to recall some of the most memorable European Cup finals. 1997 - Brive 28 Leicester Tigers 9 Brive became just the second European Cup winners after Toulouse when they put Leicester to the sword at Cardiff Arms Park. Brive played a breathtaking brand of attacking rugby that led to tries from Sebastien Viars, Gerald Fabre and Sebastien Carrat (2), as well as a late drop-goal from utility back Christophe Lamaison. 2001 - Leicester Tigers 34 Stade Français Paris 30 Fly-half Diego Dominguez kicked all 30 of Stade’s points as they fell to a narrow defeat against Leicester in a thrilling European Cup final in Paris. A pair of second-half tries from Leon Lloyd, as well as 17 points from the boot of full-back Tim Stimpson, helped the Tigers clinch the first of two successive European Cup crowns, as they beat Munster Rugby 15-9 in the 2002 final in Cardiff. https://twitter.com/ChampionsCup/status/1123180644157272071 2004 - Wasps 27 Toulouse 20 Rob Howley was the Wasps hero at Twickenham as he beat Toulouse full-back Clément Poitrenaud to the ball to secure the title-winning try with seconds left on the clock. Toulouse led throughout the first half, but were unable to see off Wasps, who roared back with tries from Stuart Abbott and Mark van Gisbergen, before Howley added the crucial final score.  2006 - Munster Rugby 23 Biarritz Olympique 19 Munster made it third time lucky in their bid for a first European title in a see-saw final against Biarritz after defeats in the 2000 and 2002 deciders. Scrum-half Peter Stringer darted past the Biarritz scrum on the blind side for what proved to be the crucial try, after opposite number Dimitri Yachvili kept the French side in touch with four penalties. Munster fly-half Ronan O’Gara had the final say with a 73rd minute penalty. 2011 - Leinster Rugby 33 Northampton Saints 22 Leinster pulled off arguably the greatest European Cup final comeback of all time when rallying from 22-6 down at half-time to defeat Northampton in Cardiff. Two second-half tries from man of the match Johnny Sexton helped the Irish province bridge the gap, before lock Nathan Hines dotted down to secure an unassailable lead. https://twitter.com/ChampionsCup/status/1121690614494400513 2012 - Leinster Rugby 42 Ulster Rugby 14 Leinster secured a third European Cup in four years with a dominant display over fellow Irish province Ulster at Twickenham. Ulster were unable to stop a rampant Leinster side, who still hold the record for the largest winning margin in a European Cup final thanks to tries from Sean O’Brien, Heinke van der Merwe, Sean Cronin and Cian Healy. 2015 - RC Toulon 24 ASM Clermont Auvergne 18 Toulon defeated Clermont in a thrilling final at Twickenham after a stroke of genius by wing Drew Mitchell clinched victory with a 69th minute try. Nick Abendanon scored a second-half try to bring Clermont within a point of Toulon, before Australian Mitchell weaved his way past five Clermont defenders to dive over for the pivotal score and seal Toulon’s third successive European Cup.
