The three-time winners kept their hopes of a repeat success alive with a 15-6 home win over the Irish province, but still lie third in Pool 4, seven points behind leaders Racing 92.

The London club take on Ospreys in Round 5 next month, before a fascinating clash with 2018 finalists Racing 92 at Allianz Park, with Saracens potentially needing to win to reach the last eight.

“It’s been a strange campaign for us, but it’ll be interesting to see what we can do,” said Maitland. “We are still alive [in the Heineken Champions Cup] and we have two massive games ahead.”

The 31-year-old Scottish international pointed out that Sarries had to show patience after falling 6-3 behind to the Irish province last Saturday.

“These games are always tight against Munster,” said Maitland. “They are a quality team and they always rise up to these big European games. It’s just a great feeling.

“We didn’t have patience in the first half and had plenty of opportunities down in their 22 but didn’t take them.

“There was a bit of frustration at half-time, but I thought that every time we had a setback in the second half, we reacted well and managed to get points, so that was the pleasing thing.”
