As one of rugby’s best-known voices, Mullins speaks exclusively to Martyn Hindley about his greatest European moments, his favourite stadium, and how the likes of England international Austin Healey and ex-Ireland captain Brian O’Driscoll have adjusted to life in the media.

Mullins says: “My Dad always wonders what I do during the week, when actually I only seem to work on Friday, Saturday and Sunday – whenever the games are - but actually my job is Monday to Thursday and the games are just fun for me.

“That preparation was a real challenge early on, not largely because I’m not entirely fluent in French, so if I wanted to get any ideas on how Guy Noves was thinking before a Toulouse match, that took some work. It was in the days before the internet as well, before we had access to Google and whatever.

“There was a lot of footwork and lot of phone work trying to get to as many training sessions as you could, and trying to get to know teams that you’d not covered before, as well as those teams you’d been seeing week in, week out.”
