The Irish province were first to book their place in the showpiece game as they dismantled Stade Toulousain 41-22 on Saturday, also at the Aviva Stadium.

Jack Conan (2), Dan Sheehan, Josh van der Flier and Jason Jenkins all went over for the hosts as Toulouse were overwhelmed again in Dublin, having suffered a similarly bruising defeat in 2022.

The visitors managed scores through Pita Ahki, Emmanuel Meafou and Jack Willis but they were punished when Thomas Ramos and Rodrigue Neti were sin-binned in either half.

But La Rochelle recorded a statement victory of their own as they drubbed Exeter Chiefs 47-28 at the Matmut ATLANTIQUE on Sunday, tallying the most points and most tries (seven) ever scored by a team in a Heineken Champions Cup semi-final.

Raymond Rhule (2), Tawera Kerr Barlow (2), UJ Seuteni, Grégory Alldritt and Pierre Bourgarit provided the reigning champions’ tries in Bordeaux as they produced a superlative performance.

Sam Simmonds, Josh Iosefa-Scott, Olly Woodburn and Jack Yeandle notched consolation tries for Exeter but there was no dream send-off for the players who are departing the club in the summer.
