Two other Challenge Cup quarter-finalists who made immediate impacts as replacements in the Six Nations Championship at the weekend were RC Toulon scrum-half Baptiste Serin and Bordeaux-Begles fly-half Matthieu Jalibert in France’s 35-22 win over Italy in Paris.

Serin, three times man of the match as Toulon claimed the No.1 seeding and a home tie with Scarlets on April 3, conjured a brilliant chip-and-chase on 73 minutes for a try that Jalibert converted.

The latter’s goal-kicking accuracy typified his form with the boot as Bordeaux-Begles finished first in Pool 3 to clinch a quarter-final against Edinburgh Rugby at Stade Chaban-Delmas on April 4. He is second top-scorer in the Challenge Cup with 62 points from five games.

Serin was one of two Toulon players among the France scorers on Sunday. The other was flanker Charles Ollivon, who is joint top try-scorer in the Six Nations Championship with three from two games after touching down in the 17th minute at the Stade de France.
