Leicester Tigers duo Freddie Steward and Guy Porter, who will play in Pool B of the Heineken Champions Cup with their club, both crossed, with Porter scoring a brace either side of the break.

Harlequins fly-half Marcus Smith was also on the scoresheet, while Owen Farrell, a three-time winner of EPCR’s leading competition with Saracens, kicked six conversions and a penalty throughout the match.

It was a dominant performance from England, who didn’t look back after Steward crossed for the first try of the game in the 12th minute.

Meanwhile, Ireland overcame a nervy start to run out comfortable 35-17 winners Fiji.

The Irish had gone behind to an early Fijian try, but Ireland responded through Ulster Rugby back row Nick Timoney, who scored two tries in quick succession before his club-mate Robert Baloucoune added a third prior to the break. Both will play in the Heineken Champions Cup Pool B with the Irish Province.

France also won, defeating South Africa 30-26 in a tense game at the Stade Vélodrome in Marseille. Sipili Falatea, who plays for Pool A Union Bordeaux-Bègles, scored an important late try.

In other matches, Wales defeated Argentina 20-13, with Pool B side Osprey’s fly-half Gareth Anscombe kicking a crucial seven points, and there was also a shock win for Italy over Australia, with Stade Toulousain full-back Ange Capuozzo scoring a brace tries in a historic 28-27 win.

England scored seven tries as they defeated Japan 52-13 at Twickenham in the Autumn Nations Series, with a host of players from Heineken Champions Cup sides among the points.
