In addition to that meeting, the two teams have squared off twice before in EPCR’s premier club competition. During the 2013-14 campaign the teams were drawn in Pool 2 with Exeter Chiefs and Cardiff Rugby. We remind you of those meetings in EPCR action.

2013-14: HCC Pool Stage: RC Toulon 51 Glasgow Warriors 28

The pair met in the opening round of the 2013-14 Pool stage as Toulon hosted their Scottish rivals at Stade Mayol.

The hosts ran rampant, scoring six tries. Maxime Mermoz and Matt Giteau crossed twice each in addition to solo scores from Delon Armitage and Chris Masoe. The kicking duties were shared, with Jonny Wilkinson (9), Giteau (2) and Frédéric Michalak (10) contributing from the tee.

Glasgow rued their poor first half display, trailing 34-0 at the interval, but did muster four tries in the second half – D.T.H. van der Merwe notching a brace with Nikola Matawalu and Jonny Gray also on the scoresheet. Ruaridh Jackson added four conversions.

After a high-scoring affair in round one, it was a different story at Scotstoun Stadium in round six as scoring was very much at a premium.

Jonny Wilkinson was the lone points scorer for the French side. He dispatched five of seven penalties to record a total of 15 points in the victory.

Ruaridh Jackson notched a single penalty in the first period as Glasgow trailed 6-3 at the break and grabbed a late consolation try from Chris Fusaro midway through the second half.

Toulon would advance from Pool 2 and go on to lift the 2013-14 Heineken Champions Cup. Glasgow finished bottom of the group with two wins from six matches.

2022-23: CC Final: Glasgow Warriors 19 RC Toulon 43

Toulon maintained their 100% EPCR record over Glasgow in last season’s Challenge Cup final in another six-try performance from the French outfit.

Baptiste Serin notched a pair of tries in the opening 24 minutes of the contest, with Sergio Parisse, Jiuta Wainiqolo, Waisea Nayacalevu and Ihaia West also dotting down. Serin (6) and Benoît Paillauguee (7) notched in the kicking game.

Glasgow trailed 21-0 at the break, but did spring to life in the second half – Kyle Steyn crossing the whitewash on two occasions in addition to a lone Sebastián Cancelliere try. George Horne added a pair of conversions for the losing Scottish side.

Glasgow Warriors and RC Toulon have been drawn together in the 2023-24 Champions Cup just weeks after the pair clashed in the 2022-23 EPCR Challenge Cup final – Toulon coming out on top in the Aviva Stadium finale.
