The one and only season so far that the two teams have met in the Challenge Cup, when it was a knockout competition from the start and Glasgow completed the double to progress to Round 2.

Tries from Sean Lamont, Donnie Macfadyen and Sam Pinder steered the Warriors to a 30-11 victory in France, before a Lamont double and tries from Andy Henderson and Gordon Bulloch sealed a 38-13 triumph at Hughenden.

2011/12

There was little to choose between the teams in two hard-fought Heineken Cup Pool 3 games, with Glasgow winning 20-15 at the Firhill Arena before drawing 13-13 at the GGL Stadium.

It was Duncan Weir’s boot that largely decided the first encounter via four penalties, despite Montpellier winning the try count 2-1, while Rory Lamont cancelled out Yoan Audrin’s try in France.

2014/15

Another Glasgow double, this time in Pool 4 of the European Rugby Champions Cup, with the Warriors sneaking a 15-13 success at the GGL, before overcoming Montpellier 21-10 at Scotstoun Stadium.

The French side scored the only try in the first encounter via a penalty score, but Finn Russell’s five penalties proved decisive. Russell was also on target in the return, converting all three of DTH van der Merwe’s treble, with Thibault Privat notching Montpellier’s sole try.

2017/18

The most recent games between the clubs came three seasons ago, when it was Montpellier’s turn to register a double, winning 29-22 at Scotstoun before triumphing 36-26 in France in Pool 3 of the Champions Cup.

A penalty try for Montpellier proved crucial in Scotland, with scores from Glasgow’s Leonardo Sarto (2) and George Turner cancelling out those from Kelian Galletier (2) and Jacques du Plessis.

It was even more of a try fest at the GGL, where there were nine, including five for Montpellier, for whom Henry Immelman led the way with a brace. Benoit Paillaugue enjoyed himself too with 13 points from a try and four conversions.
