Bristol Bears utility back Luke Daniels has labelled his side’s European Rugby Challenge Cup quarter-final at La Rochelle on Sunday “a massive challenge” - but he believes the English club’s Round 4 win there will stand them in good stead. Although La Rochelle triumphed 35-22 at Bristol in Round 3 in December, the Bears exacted revenge a week later with a 13-3 Pool 4 success at Stade Marcel Deflandre and Daniels reckons that victory will boost the Gallagher Premiership outfit at the weekend. “It’s a massive challenge for us going to La Rochelle in the quarter-finals,” Daniel, who was a replacement in the Round 4 victory, told the Bears’ official website. “We managed to beat them in the pool stages there, so we can take some confidence from that, but we definitely know the challenge ahead and the threats they have. https://twitter.com/BristolBears/status/1110896889451503616 “Every game for us now is a big game, so we head into all of them with the same mentality – we want to win.” The 27-year-old highlighted the “unreal” atmosphere at La Rochelle and how their pool stage experience could benefit the English side this weekend. “Having experienced the stadium, the noise and the atmosphere there already, it will definitely give us the confidence going forward – and just knowing that we’ve done it before is a positive for us,” Daniels added.
