The four-time champions saw off Ulster Rugby 30-15 in the Round of 16 last Saturday, with Conan picking up Heineken Star of the Match after an impressive display from No.8.

The 30-year-old admitted that Leinster needed to alter their playing style amid torrential rain in Dublin, battling to victory courtesy of tries from Ryan Baird, Jamison Gibson-Park and Andrew Porter.

"With the conditions, it's about playing pressure rugby rather than the Leinster traditional rugby where we're attacking the whole time,” he explained.

"We're keeping it down there [in Ulster's half], making them play out, kick back to us, and just sparring. Jamo [Gibson-Park], Lukey [McGrath], Ross [Byrne] and Harry [Byrne] when he came on pulled the strings really well and kept the pressure on them.

"We don't need to do anything crazy to try play out of our own half in those conditions. Nobody was getting through multi-phase with the way the weather was.

“It's just a testament to show that we can win with different styles of rugby; attacking rugby, but we can also be really gritty, up the jumper and take it to teams."

But Conan insisted that it was far from the perfect performance from Leinster and that they will need to improve to navigate Leicester and reach the semi-finals.

"There's so much more in us,” he stated “How many tries [did we miss out on]? I knocked on over the line, we were held up, and left a lot of scores out there.

“A little bit frustrated but there's always room and scope to be better and we'll have to be better next week with Leicester coming to town.

"They haven't lost in six games, we know them well from last year and they were always sitting around the top of the Premiership. It's going to be a big task, but as of right now the lads are in good form.

"They've a day advantage after playing last night, I don't think the lads are too in bits after that which is good, but we have to recover well and go again and train on Monday.

"It's going to be a different type of challenge, very physical and a big pack with a great back row. We'll have to be better than we were today."

Conan was pleased to pick up the Heineken Star of the Match accolade, particularly with competition for starting berths in the Leinster back row set to heat up further when EPCR Player of the Year nominee Caelan Doris makes his return from illness.

"My mother must be ringing in and picking man of the match," he laughed. "It's great to be playing, I feel like I've been back in form the last few weeks, feeling fit and strong.

“Obviously Caelan will be back this week, so one of us might be displaced. You need to be going well in these kind of games to put your hand up for selection.

"It's a massive bonus, with the quality in the back row we have."

Leinster Rugby back-row forward Jack Conan believes his team have further gears to move through when they host Leicester Tigers in the Heineken Champions Cup quarter-finals on Friday night.
