New Bordeaux-Bègles director of rugby Christophe Urios is the final occupant of our Coaches’ Corner after his appointment at the European Rugby Challenge Cup Pool 3 side. Where is he from? Urios arrived at Stade Chaban-Delmas from Castres Olympique, having guided them to the French title in 2018. What is his previous coaching experience? The 53-year-old's coaching career has been a steady upward curve, having begun at Castres in 2002/03 as forwards coach – a position he held for three seasons before being dismissed. Urios then moved to Bourgoin-Jallieu, where he coached for two seasons, before being appointed director of rugby at Oyonnax in 2007. In 2013 he guided Oyonnax to the Pro D2 title, but after leading them to sixth place in the TOP 14 in 2015, Castres came calling with the offer of director of rugby and he duly returned to the club where he spent much of his playing career. Who will be in his coaching team? Frédéric Charrier (backs and attack) and Julien Laïrle (forwards and defence) will be Urios’ coaches next season. Charrier has come with Urios from Castres, while Laïrle has joined from SA XV Charente. What does he think of his appointment? “I’d wanted a change and to move from Castres, where I had spent four years. In terms of motivation, I was seeking a new challenge. Several interested me, one of which was Bordeaux. And when Bordeaux arose, that enthused me at first.
