Castres Olympique 42 Dragons 14

Castres Olympique put in a superb performance against Dragons, coming out on top 42-14 in a crunch Pool 1 clash at Stade Pierre Fabre.

Tries from Thomas Fortunel, Julien Dumora, Anthony Jelonch, Wilfrid Hounkpatin, Thomas Combezou and Kevin Firmin – all converted by Dumora – gave them a compelling and impressive victory.

A shocked Dragons side could respond only in the second half, with a brace of tries from Jared Rosser, both converted by Sam Davies.

Those scores all came after the hour mark, though, and it was too little too late for them to reassert themselves and their position at the pinnacle of the pool.

Agen 24 Wasps 52

Wasps completed the double over Agen in Pool 3 as they racked up eight tries in a 52-24 triumph at Stade Armandie.

It was a whirlwind start as Ashley Johnson crossed after just two minutes to put Wasps ahead, with his effort converted by Lima Sopoaga – but Fernandez Correa struck back almost immediately, with the extras added by Thomas Vincent.

Josh Bassett put the visitors ahead once more after a great surge down the left – but Correa scored again four minutes later, and Sopoaga’s subsequent conversion gave the hosts the lead for the first and only time in the afternoon.

Biyo Alo and Tom Cruse both added tries before half-time thanks to strong work in the maul – with the extras from Sopoaga – although Vincent kicked another penalty to close the gap to 17-26 on the stroke of half-time.

Wasps were quickest off the mark in the second half too, with Jimmy Gopperth scoring twice in seven minutes. Those tries were bisected by Johnson notching his second of the afternoon, benefiting from some fine work from Theo Vukasinovic.

Sam Wolstenholme scored Wasps’ final try of the match just before the hour mark, assisted by Gopperth – but it was the hosts who grabbed the last score, courtesy of Mathieu Lamoulie one minute before time.

Leicester Tigers 30 Cardiff Blues 20

Leicester Tigers made it five wins from five in Pool 5 as they secured a 30-20 success in a thrilling contest with Cardiff Blues at Welford Road.

The Blues were fastest out of the blocks with Josh Adams finishing off a fine handling move to score wideout for Jason Tovey to land the first of his four successful kicks.

But Leicester came roaring back with Sam Lewis charging through after great work from pack colleague Harry Wells.

Ben Thomas made sure of a half-time advantage for the visitors after more crisp approach work but their lead was short lived on the restart as the Tigers struck in devastating fashion.

Livewire Jordan Olowofela was the man to strike as his blistering pace finished off another stunning raid before fellow winger Rory Hughes pulled off a brilliant tackle to deny an almost instant response from Cardiff full-back Matthew Morgan who seemed a certain scorer.

The Tigers effectively wrapped up the victory when scrum half Ben White rounded off another classy raid involving Olowofela and George Ford.
