Quins catch up with Bath
Harlequins will match the record of four appearances in the Challenge Cup final currently held by Bath when they play in Lyon tonight. Bath featured in the finals in 2003, 2007, 2008 and 2014, winning in 2008. Harlequins have won each of the three finals in which they have previously appeared – 2001, 2004 and 2011.

Final returns
In the Montpellier squad, Anthony Foch, Julien Malzieu and Thibault Privat were all winners with ASM Clermont Auvergne in the 2007 Challenge Cup final at the Twickenham Stoop. Privat and Floch also played in the 2004 final against Harlequins when Montferrand were beaten 27-26 in Reading.

Harlequins centre Jamie Roberts was a try scorer for Cardiff Blues when they beat RC Toulon in the 2010 Challenge Cup final in Marseille, while Scottish international wing Tim Visser played in last year’s final for Edinburgh Rugby against Gloucester Rugby.

Montpellier – European Shield champions!
Montpellier won the European Shield final in Italy in 2004, beating Viadana 25-19. Look back at the team from that day and link the piece into the current qualifying tournament. Teams that lost in the first-round of the Challenge Cup went into the Shield. It was won in 2003 by Castres Olympique, Montpellier a year later and Auch in 2005.

Montpellier Springboks chasing more medals
The Du Plessis brothers, Bismarck and Jannie, and fellow front row man CJ van der Linde will join Frans Steyn in attempting to add a European Rugby Challenge Cup winners’ medal to the World Cup champions’ medals they won with South Africa in Paris in 2007. History repeated in Lyon
The 2016 Challenge Cup final will be the first time two teams have met again after facing each other in the pool stages since 1999 – when the final was also played in Lyon! Montferrand won the Pool 2 clash at home, 23-14, and went on to win the title at Stade Gerland 35-16 to take the title for the first time. They also won in 2007.
