Surprisingly, it is Edinburgh who led the way as the tournament’s leading try-scorers, even though they were knocked out in the quarter-finals. They were two ahead of Gloucester Rugby, who also bowed out in the last eight, with Saracens third on 28 and Lyon down in fourth with 26.

Points – Lyon (238)

No surprise, though, in the competition’s top points-scorers, with Lyon pipping Edinburgh by six and beaten semi-finalists Saracens again third, on 218.

Carries – Lyon (866)

With five players in the top 13 carriers, Lyon were comfortably clear of second-placed RC Toulon (744) in this category – as they were in the final, which they won 30-12.

Penalty goals – Lyon (21)

Lyon goalkicker Leo Berdeu was easily the leading points-scorer in this season’s Challenge Cup with 71 and 42 of those came from his 14 penalty goals, three more than anyone else.

Conversions – Edinburgh Rugby (25)

Edinburgh’s Emiliano Boffelli was the joint top converter of tries with 15 in the competition as the Scottish side generally gained full value from their free-flowing rugby, missing only six conversions.

Clean breaks – Lyon (52)

Lyon dominated this section, claiming the top four places in the individual list as they finished 17 ahead of second-placed Edinburgh, so that it was maybe surprising they didn’t score more tries.

Defenders beaten – Lyon (204)

Davit Niniashvili, head of the individual table in this section with 24, set the standard as the Challenge Cup winners stormed clear of nearest challengers Toulon, who notched 156.

Lineouts won – Gloucester Rugby (104)

Gloucester’s athleticism and power in the lineout was much in evidence in their progress to the last eight as they finished 18 ahead of Lyon.

Metres made – Lyon (6,064)

Niniashvili was again to the fore in this category on 689m, with team-mate Clement Laporte in second on 441 as Lyon proved virtually unstoppable in all areas of the pitch, chalking up 1,497 more metres than Toulon.

Offloads – Lyon (102)

Lyon’s command of this section was even more convincing as they filled five of the first six slots in the individual list to head the team category by 41 from Toulon.

Tackles – Lyon (825)

The Challenge Cup winners proved just as lethal in defence as attack, executing 38 more tackles than their nearest challengers, Edinburgh.

Penalties conceded – Lyon (88)

Lyon did incur the wrath of the referee, though. They were 14 ahead of second-placed Benetton Rugby in this list and the Italian side exited in the Round of 16.

As befits a team who won their maiden European trophy so convincingly last week, Lyon bestrode the EPCR Challenge Cup’s statistical lists this season as well, topping nine of the 12 categories.
