Seventeen in two pool stage games against Bath Rugby, 13 against Montpellier Hérault Rugby and eight in their Round of 16 second leg against Connacht Rugby helped them on their way to a huge haul.

Leinster also scored the most points in this season’s Heineken Champions Cup, racking up 129 more than closest challengers Racing 92. The Irish province tallied 198 in three pool stage games before notching a further 166 in the knockout stage.

Leinster managed 74 more carries than champions La Rochelle as they enjoyed plenty of possession throughout their campaign.

The beaten semi-finalists regularly punished their opponents’ ill-discipline, with Nolann Le Garrec responsible for 15 of their penalties. Finalists La Rochelle (19) and Leinster (17) came closest to the TOP 14 side’s tally.

Leinster’s hefty try haul gave them ample conversion opportunities and they improved 39 of their 47 scores. Johnny Sexton slotted 22, while Ross Byrne was responsible for 17.

Leinster’s electric running rugby saw them dissect opposition defences. They almost doubled La Rochelle’s number of clean breaks (38), with James Lowe (12) and Jimmy O’Brien (11) proved especially elusive.

Offloads – Stade Toulousain (94)

Toulouse showcased plenty of audacious moves during their march to the semi-finals, outdoing La Rochelle (75) and Leinster (63) in terms of offloads despite playing one game fewer.

Tackles – Leinster Rugby (1,239)

For all their attacking flair, Leinster did not shirk their defensive responsibilities, completing over 200 more tackles than any other team. Montpellier (1,007) and Munster Rugby (939) came closest.

Penalties conceded – Stade Rochelais (96)

All 21 points La Rochelle conceded in the Heineken Champions Cup final came from the tee and it was perhaps no surprise given the number of times they have been pinged by referees in this season’s competition. They conceded 15 more penalties than Leinster and Munster (81).
